Fila Vintage
Fila, is back! In 1911 the Fila brothers founded the Fila Company, which was initially a company that produced clothing for the people of the Italian Alps. Fila’s initial product was mainly underwear, however Fila moved into sports wear during the 1970’s as they sponsored tennis super star Bjorn Borg. This in-tern kicked off a huge trend for Fila BJ track tops amongst the casual crowd during the 70’ and 80’s. After a period of ambiguity during the 90’s and early 2000’s Fila is firmly back in its rightful position as a global brand which provides excellent quality and great style, with the Fila Vintage range. The revival of the classic Italian sport wear label Fila can be attributed to a number of issues. The overall shining light for Fila’s comeback is undoubtedly the Fila Vintage range. However the modern desire for nostalgia, retro and vintage also play a part along with popular cultures endorsement of the Fila name.
The 2005 film The Business starring Danny Dyer features the Fila brand heavily. Set in the Costa del Sol during the 80’s (the height of Fila and the football casual who so feverishly desired this label) The Business features a young lad with style and a desire to better his way of life any way possible. The portrayal of Fila Vintage within The Business was the blue touch paper for Fila’s come back as the film was stylishly shot under the Spanish sun along with snappy dialogue and great performances by some of Britain’s coolest actors this whole heartedly complimented the Fila Vintage look. Another attribute to the success of Fila Vintage is the modern casual. Whether he be the older casual of the 70’s and 80’s who was there to see the original Fila BJ track tops or the younger casual who just has an affiliation with the classic designs of yester year and is pleased he too can own a piece of genuine iconic design within the Fila Vintage range. The modern casual truly does give Fila Vintage his stamp of approval.
Without this public appetite for past icons of fashion the Fila Vintage range may not have been issued. Therefore Fila Vintage is truly a product of the individuals will and desire rather than a corporate marketing scheme that tries to force the buyers hand into something they don’t particularly need or even want.
