YEN JEANS
Yen is the iconic jeanswear line from Japanese designer Michiko Koshino. Michiko Koshino has garnered world-wide acclaim for her innovation and creativity across a wide variety of media and platforms: Michiko Koshino made her name with collections inspired by the late 80s and early 90s club and techno culture. She was the first designer to make use of reflective fabrics and bandages, and is credited with the invention of inflatable clothing.
In 1995, Michiko Koshino started Yen Jeans, manufacturing premium Japanese denim on original American 1940s looms with pioneering indigo dying techniques. As the sun rises in the East in the form of the Red Label in Japan, so it sets in Europe in the form of the Yen Orange Label. The Yen Jeans brand sees traditional Japanese culture reworked with contemporary cuts and styles, and combines Michiko’s intuitive experimentalism with the functionality of European streetwear.
Fans of Yen Jeans include David Bowie, Liberty Ross, David Beckham, Jude Law, Keira Knightly, Gwen Stefani and Noel Gallagher. Like all Michiko Koshino's lines, the Orange Label is distinguished by exhilarating experimentation and a radical rejection of mainstream ubiquity.
